Water is the basis of life and that is precisely why everyone needs and should have access to clean drinking water. To advance this, we have joined forces with our partners in Kenya and Sierra Leone.
17 million Kenyans in rural areas do not have access to a basic water supply and about half of them (8 million) rely on surface water for their drinking water needs (source: FundiFix ). Unclean water can be particularly dangerous for children, as they are more susceptible to infectious diseases and diarrhea. A good and intact infrastructure is necessary for a comprehensive supply of clean drinking water. In Kenya, this infrastructure already exists, but is not intact everywhere and therefore needs to be repaired.
The country, weakened by civil war and Ebola, suffers from destroyed or missing infrastructure. In addition to economic and structural difficulties, the population in Sierra Leone also struggles with the insecure food situation. This is the main reason for chronic malnutrition in the population. In addition, the country struggles with one of the highest child and maternal mortality rates in the world. Reasons for these high rates include diarrheal diseases, which are due to the lack of access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.
2,460,000Days access to clean drinking water
Together with our partner organizations in Kenya and Sierra Leone, we have set ourselves clear goals to give as many local people as possible access to clean drinking water. With your support, we have come a long way towards achieving this goal.
After successful funding in Kenya and Sierra Leone, we are continuing the project in Kenya and providing support in Madagascar. Click here to read about the current campaign for clean drinking water with Action Against Hunger and FundiFix .
