Together with you, we distribute glasses in Burkina Faso.
Did you know that each of our products always contains a social donation? Let's look at Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in the world, which ranks 184th out of 191 on the UN Human Development Index. Here, together with the organization EinDollarBrille eV, we want to ensure basic optical care for local people.
What’s behind the OneDollarGlasses?
First, we would like to explain to you why the need for these glasses is so great: According to the WHO, more than 950 million people worldwide currently have no access to optical care. This means that they are not diagnosed with what type of visual impairment they suffer from, nor are they given glasses or any other type of visual aid. The reason for this is, for example, that people do not have enough money to buy glasses or there are simply no opticians nearby. As a result, children cannot learn or adults cannot work to support their families.
That's why our social partner, EinDollarBrille eV, has been working since 2012 to make basic optical care accessible. This resulted in the development of glasses that are both inexpensive and robust. Specialists are trained on site and can make the frames themselves using a simple bending machine, without any electricity. The material costs around 1 US dollar, hence the name.
Thanks to this solution, some people can see properly for the first time in their lives, while others regain their full vision.
