Your snacks donate to people in Berlin
If you are in Austria, you can find out here how your purchase makes a meal possible.
Thanks to you and the Berliner Tafel, we distribute food to people living in poverty every day.
Did you know that each of our products always contains a social donation? And often we don't have to look far to help, because social inequalities are spreading all over the world. Even in our capital city. In Berlin, the poverty rate - the proportion of people who have to get by on an income below the poverty line - has been rising for years. With your snack, you are helping to donate a portion of food to disadvantaged people in Berlin.
But what is actually behind a portion of food?
You probably already know how the Tafel works: Food that is actually still good but is no longer suitable for sale is distributed to people living in poverty at distribution points throughout Berlin. With our donation, they receive a package containing at least 500 g of food, which helps to support people and their families. In this way, we can make a tangible contribution to combating food poverty and at the same time save food from going to waste.
This help is particularly important today, as the number of Tafel customers has doubled since spring 2022. The consequences of the war in Ukraine and inflation have had a significant impact on people affected by poverty in particular, meaning more people are dependent on support. By distributing fresh produce, such as fruit and vegetables, we can work with the food banks to contribute to a more balanced diet.
Berliner Tafel
The Berliner Tafel is the oldest food bank in Germany. The organization has been providing people with food since 1993. This mammoth task can only be accomplished thanks to the tireless and selfless commitment of the many volunteers.
How exactly is a portion of food financed?
Now back to the donation. How does it turn into social assistance? Together with our partner, the Berliner Tafel, we want to give people living in poverty access to nutritious meals. However, as an independent aid organization, the Berliner Tafel does not support any products or services. That's why share gives 6 cents of every snack sold to the Berliner Tafel to help rescue food. We do this by supporting the logistics work: transporting the food, sorting it and distributing it to people.
