Support reforestation in Haiti and Ethiopia

Reforestation against climate change

Climate change has long been omnipresent and its consequences are noticeable. Extreme weather events are occurring more and more frequently, having a major impact on the environment and local people around the world. In poorer countries in particular, crop failures due to droughts, floods or forest fires can lead to catastrophic situations and seriously endanger people's living conditions and basic supplies.

Trees can counteract this: healthy tree populations can mitigate the impact of disasters and increase both water quality and soil fertility. They also stabilize and protect biodiversity and provide refuge for animals and insects (Source: EOS , 2021).

Where we help

Climate change is becoming more and more pervasive. This makes it all the more important to start taking active measures to combat it. This is precisely why we support projects in Haiti and Ethiopia.

Why Haiti
Why Haiti

Islands are particularly affected by extreme weather and climate changes. In Haiti, the effects of climate change are clearly visible in the weather events that threaten flora and fauna and also damage agricultural harvests. Crop failures worsen living conditions and food insecurity in the country.

Why Ethiopia
Why Ethiopia

Ethiopia's population, especially in rural areas, depends on healthy forests and their natural resources for their livelihoods. At the same time, the country's forest stocks have declined sharply in recent decades, posing major challenges for people and ecosystems (Source: Eden Reforestation Projects , 2023).

What we want to achieve

Together with our cooperation partners, we set clear and ambitious goals for each project right from the start. In this way, we want to ensure that as many people as possible are helped effectively and sustainably. This also applies to the projects in Haiti and Ethiopia.

How we work

In this project, with which we are pursuing not only a social goal but also an ecological one, we have teamed up with experts: certified national and international aid organizations with expertise in the field of climate protection. We trust them because we can understand exactly how they use the money. This way we can be sure that our help is reaching the right people.

Our selected partners in the fight for climate protection are Eden Reforestation Projects and Welthungerhilfe .

about the project about the project

about the project

In the Dawuro region in southern Ethiopia, a reforestation model is being developed that is tailored to local needs and blends in with the existing vegetation. The restoration of natural forests is intended to help regenerate ecosystems and reverse the effects of deforestation.

Tree nurseries for ecological diversity Tree nurseries for ecological diversity

Tree nurseries for ecological diversity

This project focuses on planting seedlings in Tulema Koysa. In order to manage the region sensibly and sustainably, the local population runs tree nurseries. This promotes ecological diversity and economic development.

Eden Reforestation Projects

Our partner organization implemented the first project in Ethiopia back in 2005. 3,500 people from the region grew, planted and cared for around 16 million trees. A new project phase has been running since 2022 and will extend to 8 other regions in the country.

Agricultural benefits and food security Agricultural benefits and food security

Agricultural benefits and food security

This form of agriculture allows smallholder farmers to increase and diversify their food production, thereby increasing local food security, improving crop yields and bringing back varieties that had almost disappeared.

Fair wages Fair wages

Fair wages

With this project, you support small farmers and their food production in harmony with the ecosystem shaped by climate change. In the process, ecosystems are regenerated and jobs with fair wages are created.

about the project

Agricultural cultivation, livestock farming and charcoal production are causing Haiti's forests to continue to dwindle. You can support Welthungerhilfe and the population with your contribution to reforestation.

Reforestation as a basis for sustainable agriculture

In Haiti, we are working together with Welthungerhilfe and the population to expand the tree population in the country. Welthungerhilfe also provides families in Haiti with food, drinking water and temporary accommodation in acute emergency situations caused by natural disasters.

World hunger Help

Welthungerhilfe works with reliable local partners and focuses on sustainable solutions in the areas of agriculture, food security, as well as water, hygiene and sanitation.

Sustainable knowledge transfer Sustainable knowledge transfer

Sustainable knowledge transfer

In addition, Welthungerhilfe promotes the transfer of knowledge about sustainable agriculture. This helps to stabilize the insecure food situation and preserves the country's biodiversity.

With your support, we can work with Welthungerhilfe to expand tree populations, improve soil and impart the knowledge needed to protect Haiti's biodiversity and prevent forest loss.
