Our Impact 2024

Looking back at the year 2024

Founder Ben says hello

The year 2024 brought us significant milestones: With over €10 million invested in social projects since our founding, we were able to share with people in need 200 million times. At the same time, it presented us with new challenges that motivated us to revise our portfolio. To master market fluctuations, we streamlined our offerings, developed specializations, and prioritized product quality.

The changing consumer behavior, reflected in the trend towards a "Me Economy," underscores that people expect companies to take decisive action for social change. share embraces this responsibility and empowers consumers to contribute to positive change through their everyday purchases. In a world where the role of companies in social change is becoming increasingly important, our mission is to be a driving force for good.

This report invites you to discover our impact in 2024.

Find your way around

“Profit for” in practice

Economic impact

The "Profit for Purpose" approach combines entrepreneurial activity with social and environmental responsibility – and thus perfectly captures the spirit of the times: Sustainability is not a trend, but rather the new normal and is expected by a large majority of consumers. The HDE Consumer Monitor Sustainability 2024 shows that two-thirds of respondents consider themselves sustainability-conscious, and almost half state that they buy sustainably. Compared to the previous year, these are increases of 8 and 9 percentage points, respectively – a remarkable dynamic. Furthermore, 67% of employees state that they would prefer to work for a company with a purpose. Investors are also reacting: ESG criteria (Environmental, Social, Governance) have long since become an integral part of strategic decisions.

Since its founding, share has focused on precisely this approach: making impact measurable, communicating transparently, and acting in an economically sustainable manner. In this year's Impact Report, we provide insights into projects, partnerships, and moments where this approach came to life.

Donations are part of our DNA

Mission locked

In Germany, the willingness to donate is high, but often the simple implementation is a hurdle. This is precisely where share comes in: We integrate donations into everyday life, because every purchase enables concrete help. Our products and services finance social and environmental projects worldwide – for example, by maintaining wells, distributing emergency food, or reforestation efforts. Passing on a fixed portion of our revenue directly to social projects is not just our commitment, but an integral part of our company structure since our founding – certified by B Lab as an impact business model. "Mission Locked".

More than numbers

Our impact categories

Behind every number is a person – with their own story, potential, challenges, and hopes. With our social projects, we continued our commitment in 2024 to ensuring basic needs such as food, clean drinking water, hygiene, education, and healthcare. We pursue a clear goal: to reduce inequalities and make concrete contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – from combating poverty and hunger to promoting gender equality, climate action, and education. The projects we implement together with strong partner organizations worldwide demonstrate that impact happens where support helps strengthen local structures – measurably, with a human touch, and with a long-term perspective.

Fight hunger

Although there is theoretically enough food in the world for everyone, 1 in 10 people suffer from hunger. Together with our partner organizations, we are taking action: We facilitate the provision of emergency food in crisis areas, distribute school meals, and ensure greater food security for socially disadvantaged people in Europe.

18 million meals reached over 1.2 million people. 5,800 tons of food were saved.

Together worldwide

World map of good deeds

Since our launch in 2018, we have shared more than 212 million times with 4.7 million people in 33 countries. In 2024 alone, our products supported projects in 18 countries across 4 continents, reaching 1.3 million people with over 43 million acts of assistance.

In the spotlight

Resilience in Somalia

Despite recurring droughts, floods, and conflicts, the local people demonstrate remarkable resilience. Together with our partner Action Against Hunger, we were able to provide vital assistance to over 22,000 malnourished children in 2024 alone.

Our partnerships

Strong partnerships are at the heart of our work. Together with our partners, we create impact in the everyday lives of many people: on supermarket shelves, while traveling, or when banking. The following examples demonstrate the diversity of these collaborations – and the difference we can make through shared goals and the continuous development of our partnerships.

ING x share

The ING Future current account, in cooperation with share, makes social engagement easy, even in banking: Customers finance social and environmental projects worldwide through the Future current account. They can choose which project categories, such as education or clean water and hygiene, they want to support. Additionally, they have the option to round up their purchase amount to achieve even greater impact. The current account continued to grow in 2024, enabling us to implement projects in a total of 15 countries with a funding volume of approximately €830,000. The Future current account allows us to support a particularly diverse range of projects – for example, greater equality of opportunity for disadvantaged young people in Germany through sports programs, emergency food for children and their mothers, or renaturation projects in Germany and around the world. A particular highlight: In May 2024, together with ING customers, we reached the milestone of 10 million aid contributions.

Together with share, we further developed the Girokonto Future (current account) in 2024 – with great success: Over 16 million acts of assistance and ten completed funded projects demonstrate the impact of the Girokonto Future community. Our customers particularly appreciate that they can easily and effortlessly do good with their account. share is a strong partner that responds quickly to customer feedback – for example, the desire for greater local impact led to the implementation of an educational project in Germany.

5 years of Deutsche Bahn

For five years, Deutsche Bahn and share have been working together for social responsibility. With every bottle of share water sold on board the trains, we have already been able to build or repair over 50 wells. Our "Chocolate Favorite Guest" for first-class passengers has enabled more than 10 million meals since February 2024. The donations go to Tafel Deutschland e.V. (German Food Banks Association). This has allowed even more food to be rescued and distributed to people in need.

Accompanied by numerous press releases, social media campaigns and high-profile actions on the trains, we have together reached an audience of 20 million people and sustainably strengthened awareness of our common goals.

As a company, dm has always been committed to social and environmental sustainability. Leading by example in our community is one of our guiding principles. That's why we've been working together with share for five years now. We're pleased that by selling share products, we can strengthen the idea of sustainable consumption and support people who face challenges in our society.

Four million reasons to celebrate

Strong together for Austria

Since 2019, share products have also been available in Austria – and have already enabled nearly 4 million instances of assistance, 480,000 of which were provided in 2024. The partnership with Caritas Vienna has been particularly successful: Over half a million instances of assistance for Le+O have been realized. This project distributes rescued food to people affected by poverty and also offers free counseling. In August 2024, the anniversary was celebrated at the Le+O Waldkloster – with the active participation of the share team in distributing food, accompanied by the media team from Puls 4. In addition to being listed at DM and REWE, share products have also been available in all Interspar and Eurospar supermarkets since autumn 2024.

Partnership with Eurowings

For five years, Eurowings and share have been committed to more than just safely flying people from A to B: In 2019, the Lufthansa subsidiary sold our water on board for the first time. Since autumn 2024, with an expanded range of snacks and drinks, creative onboard activities, and strong communication, we've been bringing social impact directly on board. The result: In 2024, we were able to jointly provide over 3.7 million aid services, including 3.2 million days of drinking water and projects in 7 countries. For World Food Day, we ran a special campaign: Every sandwich sold donated a meal – enabling the distribution of over 75,000 meals.

"profit-for" at edding

As CDO of the edding Group, Boontham Temaismithi discusses responsibility, digitalization, and purpose. Together with share, edding is pursuing a value-added partnership – and is taking over the distribution of share stationery, which promotes education in Uganda. In this interview, he demonstrates how economic success and social impact can go hand in hand.

Enjoy responsibly

Our products are not only delicious, but also a testament to our corporate responsibility. Alongside our social business model, we are committed to considering all pillars of sustainability. Our core strategic initiatives in this area are transparency and risk management in the supply chain, environmentally friendly packaging, and our carbon footprint.

You can find more information about our approach to product development and responsible collaboration with our suppliers on our sustainability page.

More than just a certification

share as a B Corp

As a social business, we have stood for a different way of doing business since our founding: transparent, responsible, and impact-oriented. We were successfully certified as a B Corp in our very first year. Now, recertification is due for the second time, and we are preparing thoroughly. Even though recertification only takes place every three years, we see the B Impact Assessment primarily as a guideline that provides impetus, aids in benchmarking, and offers insights into where structures can be further developed.

Our path to net zero

Actively working for climate protection

In 2023, we joined the SME Climate Hub, a non-profit global initiative that supports small and medium-sized enterprises in taking climate action and building resilient business models for the future. By doing so, we committed to halving our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030, achieving net zero by 2050, and reporting on our progress annually. We published our first official climate report this year. Our emissions have been measured in our Company Carbon Footprint since 2021 in cooperation with ClimatePartner.

A clear line in unstable times

Navigating challenges

Our most important stakeholders are our customers. Their expectations of our products and services shape our actions – from taste and quality to sustainability and transparency, and even social impact. Balancing these demands while ensuring competitive prices is one of our greatest challenges – especially in the current economic and political climate.

Our approach is therefore customer first, combined with a clear commitment to social impact. We see donations as an integral part of our products. Together with strong partners in product development, sales, communication, and social impact, we can operate successfully.

It is essential for us to actively embrace the challenges of our time. We want to use all available resources to meet them with conviction, innovation, and the courage to change in the years to come.
