We are starting the year with a milestone: thanks to the customers of ING's Future current account, we have been able to provide more than €1 million in aid since the account was launched. So far, this support has reached people in 15 countries on four continents. Wells have been built and repaired, seedlings have been planted, education has been provided for children, food has been saved and vital nutrition has been distributed. This is a great achievement that motivates us to keep going. Because this result shows what we can achieve together when many people make a conscious social decision in their everyday lives, such as the one for the Future current account.

Focus: Humanitarian Aid

In this context, emergency aid is particularly important, i.e. immediate, short-term support for people who find themselves in an acute emergency situation. Humanitarian distress arises, for example, from natural disasters such as floods or droughts, armed conflicts, forced migration or as a result of extreme poverty. The aim of humanitarian aid is to save lives, alleviate suffering, protect the rights of those in need of help and preserve human dignity. The most important measures for providing care in an emergency situation include the provision of food and drinking water as well as medical assistance.

Emergency food ensures survival

Thanks to the support of the customers of the Future checking account, more than 4 million meals have now been financed, including 1 million meals for people in acute emergency situations. Specifically, the food rations are being distributed in six countries: India, Yemen, Nepal, Somalia, Greece and Ukraine. There they primarily reach families with small children who are particularly dependent on support, but also people who are fleeing in order to protect themselves and their families.

Forgotten Crises

We are currently witnessing how progress in the fight against hunger worldwide is stagnating and in some cases the situation is even worsening (Global Hunger Index 2024). Acute crises, which arise from new or re-ignited conflicts, for example, contribute to this just as much as crises that have existed for a long time and are not resolved. Although many people have been fighting for survival here for years, media attention is declining over time and they are becoming "forgotten crises". This must not happen, which is why it is important to continue to provide support in this context too.

Together for more impact

We say thank you! Because by choosing the Future checking account, every customer supports social and ecological projects that make a real difference for many people. The overview shows which projects have already been successfully financed with the ING Future checking account and which projects are currently being implemented. We look forward to generating even more impact together in 2025!
