What does humanitarian aid mean?

When people find themselves in life-threatening emergencies due to natural disasters or conflicts, it is important to provide rapid assistance to ensure their survival.

Humanitarian aid organizations are often the first line of defense here, providing those affected with the bare necessities: This includes basic supplies of food and drinking water, as well as safe accommodation and access to medical and legal assistance.

Through interventions such as distributing emergency meals, we and our partners want to provide vital support to as many people as possible.

What does humanitarian aid mean?

Where we help

People on the run are particularly vulnerable and usually find themselves in extreme humanitarian situations. Whether displaced in their own country or in host countries - they are dependent on urgent support and solidarity. That is why we are working with our partners to provide assistance to refugees in Ukraine and on Lesbos.

Why Ukraine?

The war has left many people in acute need. According to the UN, around 17.7 million people urgently need humanitarian aid and protection. Many do not know how to get food because supply lines have been disrupted, crops have been destroyed by the war, or they cannot afford the food available (Source: OCHA, 2022 and 2023).

Why Greece (Lesbos)?

The situation on the Greek island of Lesbos is tense. In September 2020, 12,000 people lost their homes overnight when the Moria refugee camp burned down (UN, 2023). In 2022, almost 18,800 refugees arrived in Greece, 12,758 of them by sea. The living conditions in the camps are grueling for those seeking protection, especially women and children. There is a lack of basic goods such as food and hygiene items. At the same time, it is uncertain when people will be able to travel on.

What we want to achieve

Together with our partners, we set clear and effective goals. On the ground, we facilitate the distribution of meals to people in Ukraine and on Lesbos.

How we work

We have teamed up with those who are experts in helping around the world: recognized national and international aid organizations. Through transparent use of funds and needs-based project planning, they ensure that aid reaches the people who need it most.

Our selected partners in the fight against world hunger are Europe Cares and the UN World Food Programme (WFP).

We are working with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to provide people in Ukraine with urgent, vital food supplies. Help that arrives quickly and directly.
About the partner

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is the largest humanitarian organisation in the world. It is set up to distribute food and relief supplies quickly and effectively around the world. The following quantities of vehicles are on the road every day:

  • 30 cargo ships
  • 100 aircraft
How WFP helps

In Ukraine, WFP began fighting hunger immediately after the outbreak of war. Since then, the organization has been helping people who have fled - inside and outside the country. On the one hand, it provides food directly, and on the other hand, it provides financial donations so that they can provide for themselves.
Providing emergency aid on Lesbos

Together with Europe Cares, we want to show solidarity and support people on Lesbos. To this end, Europe Cares distributes high-quality meals to the refugees there and also provides psychosocial support.

Europe Cares is a non-profit organisation that provides direct support to people on the move. They are committed to promoting a European society that shows solidarity with people on the move.
How Europe Cares helps

Europe Cares supports people on the run and aims to raise awareness of human rights violations at the European borders. The focus of their work is on distributing meals, medical and psychosocial care and legal advice.
