Digital devices, appointments and shops are now part of our everyday lives. Digitalization is increasingly permeating our everyday lives and we are making use of it. Digital education is therefore becoming an important key to participation in this world and our society. In this article, we will show you how the share Tut Gutes tariff supports digital education.

Status quo of digital education

As most parents and teachers know, the status quo of digital education is characterized by various challenges. Although digital technologies play an increasingly important role in everyday life, digital education is still lagging behind in many areas. In Europe, too, the use of digital media varies greatly from school to school. There is often a lack of a uniform strategy and infrastructure. While some schools have modern equipment and qualified teachers, others struggle with limited access to digital resources and a lack of training. There is still a need for widespread implementation of digital education concepts to ensure that all students can benefit equally from the advantages of digital education. This is also about the fair distribution of opportunities.

Digital learning in Kenya and the global South

Digital education faces particularly great challenges in Kenya and other countries in the global South. Access to modern technologies and internet connections is often limited, especially in rural areas.

To put it in numbers, according to statistics, internet usage in Kenya was 32.7% at the beginning of 2023 ( Source : DataReportal, DIGITAL 2023: KENYA), while in Germany over 90% of households are online ( Source : Statista, Share of households in Germany with internet access from 2002 to 2022). Schools are also inadequately equipped with digital devices and infrastructure, which leads to a huge gap in education. According to the 2022 After Access Survey, the biggest barriers for people in Uganda are the lack of knowledge about what the internet is and access itself.

Projects like EIDU are actively working to improve educational opportunities and promote the use of digital technologies to give children access to high-quality digital education. These initiatives show that digital education can be an important lever to reduce educational inequalities and promote equal opportunities worldwide.

EIDU: An educational platform with big goals

The EIDU educational project uses tablets, smartphones and specially developed learning software to teach educational content in a playful and interactive way. The software was designed so that children can learn independently without any prior knowledge or reading skills. It offers various learning modules that are aligned with the curricula of the respective countries and enable the children to learn basic skills in the areas of mathematics and reading.

EIDU takes a holistic approach that not only aims to impart knowledge, but also promotes the cognitive, social and emotional development of children. The learning software contains interactive games, stories and exercises that are designed to make the learning process exciting and arouse the interest of children. In addition, the children's progress is monitored in order to provide individual support and maximize learning success.

EIDU has already successfully established itself in various countries, including Kenya, Uganda and India, and has been able to provide thousands of children with a better education. This digital education offers enormous potential to promote educational equity worldwide and to offer children equal opportunities regardless of their social or geographical background.

The mobile phone plan that donates education

Do good, promote digital education

So how do a mobile phone plan and digital education fit together? It's very simple: without an internet connection, digital education is difficult. For us, the availability of an internet connection has now become as normal as eating a meal or brushing our teeth every day. However, this is not the case everywhere in the world.

That's why we want to help with our Tut Gutes tariff where digital education is really needed. Because every month of the Tut Gutes tariff donates one month of digital education. We are implementing this together with the EIDU education project. This means you can make calls, text or surf the internet comfortably and at the same time support an important and great cause: digital education and equal opportunities for children in Kenya. Mandela once said that education is the most important weapon for changing the world. With this mobile tariff, we can all be a part of it.
