Climate change has long been omnipresent and its consequences are noticeable. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and are having serious impacts on the environment and local people around the world. Especially in poorer countries, crop failures due to droughts, floods or forest fires can lead to catastrophic situations and massively endanger people's basic supplies.
Trees can counteract this: Healthy tree populations can mitigate the effects of disasters and improve both water quality and soil fertility. They also stabilize and protect biodiversity and provide refuge for animals and insects (Source: Eos, 2021 ).
The effects of climate change often hit hardest those who have done the least to cause it. It is important to do something about it now. That is precisely why we support projects like this in Haiti and Kenya.
Islands are particularly affected by extreme weather events and climate change. In Haiti, the number of hurricanes and floods has increased significantly in recent decades. This threatens flora and fauna, damages agricultural harvests and jeopardizes food security. Forests, which otherwise slow down soil and water, have been cleared in recent years, which exacerbates the problem.
The mangrove ecosystems along the Kenyan coast are home to a diverse range of bird and marine fauna. Their extensive roots retain sediment, dampen storm surges and waves, and protect against flooding and erosion. Many mangrove forests have been severely damaged by human activities and environmental impacts, threatening wildlife and the livelihoods of local people.

Together with our cooperation partners, we set clear and ambitious goals for each project right from the start. In this way, we want to ensure that as many people as possible are helped effectively and sustainably. This also applies to the projects in Haiti and Kenya.
In this project, with which we are pursuing not only a social goal but also an ecological one, we have teamed up with experts: certified national and international aid organizations with expertise in the field of climate protection. We trust them because we can understand exactly how they use the money. This way we can be sure that our help reaches the right people.
Our selected partners in the fight for climate protection are Eden Reforestation Projects and Welthungerhilfe .
