Storms, droughts, conflicts, displacement. If you follow the news, there seems to be no end to the disasters in the world. They often have devastating effects on the people on the ground, even when they have long since disappeared from the headlines. Humanitarian organizations around the world are responding to these crises to help people in need as effectively as possible. However, with the increasing number of disasters, this is becoming increasingly challenging. But humanitarian organizations are always finding new ways to help people in need.

Innovations & proactive help

Not all disasters are unexpected, and innovations are emerging to prevent the impact of a crisis before it happens. Anticipatory Humanitarian Action is revolutionizing emergency response by using early warning systems and predictive models to identify communities at risk early. This allows life-saving supplies such as food or medical care to be delivered in a timely manner, even before disasters occur. The benefits are numerous: lives are saved, displacement is minimized, livelihoods are protected, and the economic costs of emergency response are reduced. A paradigm shift is taking place towards a more effective response system that prioritizes prevention over reaction.

How does share support?

share has been supporting emergency aid projects since its founding in 2018, and since 2023, ING's Future checking account, in cooperation with share, has offered a new way to support the work of humanitarian organizations.
In April 2024, the first humanitarian aid project in Somalia and Ukraine was fully funded.

This means that, together with our partners, Action Against Hunger and the UN World Food Programme (WFP), we can provide 260,000 meals for people in need in both countries. With every additional ING Future checking account, we support further emergency aid projects and together we can make a real difference for people affected by humanitarian crises around the world.

Reconstruction after the crisis

Given the numerous conflicts and disasters in the world, one might get the impression that the aid provided has little effect. But timely emergency aid not only helps enormously during the crisis, but also enables those affected to recover and rebuild their lives after the crisis. This helps in the short term, but is also an investment in the future.
